| Voluntary & Community Sector Infrastructure Needs in Kent Thameside |
| Background |
The Kent Thameside, area covering substantial parts of Dartford and Gravesham, forms part of the Thames Gateway and is a Government Priority Region for economic, social and environmental regeneration. The Community Enterprise Hub Project has been established to ensure that the well-being of everyone living,
working and investing in Kent Thameside remains central to the regeneration process. The voluntary and community sector has a key role to play in this through the network of services and facilities it provides. CSC was commissioned to identify the sector’s existing and future service and infrastructure needs to support this crucial role.
|
| Our Role |
CSC was commissioned to identify the future service and infrastructure needs of the voluntary and community sector across the Kent Thameside area and provide advice on how these needs can best be met. This involved three linked tasks:
- Mapping voluntary and community service provision across the area and the production of a database and supporting maps
- Mapping community facilities across the area and the production of a database and supporting maps
- A report consolidating information gathered and resulting recommendations on the most appropriate way to address existing and future gaps in provision
CSC was chosen because of its wealth of experience of both the voluntary and community sector and the Thames Gateway.
|
| Delivery |
CSC undertook a comprehensive survey of voluntary and community organisations and community facilities across the area. This included large and small groups, stand-alone community facilities and facilities included within mainstream agencies (libraries, schools, etc). The information was input to two separate user-friendly databases (one for organisations, one for facilities) that could be interrogated by a wide range of factors. In
addition two maps of the area were produced showing the location of organisations and facilities by type. A report was produced which summarised the information gathered and provided a Voluntary and Community Sector Infrastructure Support Strategy to guide the future work of and project priorities for Kent Thameside Community Enterprise Hub Project.
